Using One Computer in the Classroom

Using one computer in a classroom can be difficult, however, if a teacher effectively plans it is possible to make is useful to all students. One way would be to divide the class into small groups and have then write down their ideas before they research a topic on the computer as brainstorming. Then one group at a time will use the computer to research their topic. Students can explore different websites, pictures, and videos to gather information. Once they finish they go through and compare their preconceived ideas, to what they actually found to be true. Each group goes to the computer once another finishes keeping the flow moving.

The computer could also be used as a reward. If the class as a whole behaves, students may use the computer to help with English vocabulary or other projects that otherwise would have to be done by hand.

Either way it is important for students to be able to use the computer in the classroom, and for the teacher to find creative ways to incorporate the technology in their classroom.

  1. Computer assisted instruction is instruction delivered directly to learners by allowing them to interact with lessons programmed into the computer system.
